Homemade Camper Build Episode 8 | Fiberglassing the Camper & Finishing the Bottom
Welcome to Episode 8 of our homemade camper build! In this episode, we make major progress protecting and finishing our DIY camper as we fiberglass the seams and edges and complete the bottom of our camper body.
We’re building a custom squaredrop camper from scratch, and properly sealing the plywood is an important part of protecting the camper from moisture and the elements.
DIY Camper Build Fiberglassing: Seams and Edges
We start by sanding all the areas where fiberglass will be applied. Once the surfaces are prepared, we fiberglass the seams and edges throughout the camper body. This helps reinforce the joints and create a protective seal.
After completing the fiberglass work, we carefully flip the entire camper body over so we can begin working on the bottom.
Sealing the Bottom of Our Homemade Camper
With the camper body flipped over, we countersink the screw heads and fill them with wood putty. We then use a router to trim the edges and prepare the bottom for sealing.
Next, we apply epoxy and fiberglass the seams on the bottom of the camper. These steps help create a strong, sealed surface designed to protect the plywood from moisture.
